Old Leipzig Train Station | Dresden

THE HISTORIC SITE

During the Nazi dictatorship, the Old Leipzig Train Station in Dresden served as the central departure point for the deportations of Dresden’s Jewish population.
For many people, this was the last stop in their hometown before they were deported to ghettos, concentration camps, and extermination camps. Their homes, livelihoods, and lives were forcibly taken from them.

Last Stop Lofts takes its name from this history.
We believe that the best way to honor the memory of those who were never able to build a future here is to fill this place with life, beauty, and new homes.

To transform a place that once marked the final stop in so many people’s lives into a place where new life can begin.

May their memory always be a blessing.

WE REMEMBER

Last Stop Lofts is being built in a place whose history cannot—and must not—be forgotten.

We believe that creating something new in a historic place comes with the responsibility to remember what was there before.

The memorial is therefore neither a decorative accessory nor an afterthought. It is an integral part of the project.

Designed by Israeli architect Yael Ben-Ami, the monument was created specifically for Last Stop Lofts. It is intended to create a place of remembrance that blends naturally into the landscape of contemporary life.

His sculptures, made of stone and metal, evoke images of railroad tracks, trains, and the people who passed through this place. The names, dates, and historical documents engraved on the monument restore a sense of individuality to those people who were systematically reduced to mere numbers by the Nazi regime.

The accompanying commemorative plaque is written in German, English, and Hebrew. It thus reflects both the history of this place and the bonds between the communities whose histories are intertwined with it.

Help make "Last Stop Lofts"  a reality

A historic site in Dresden. A new chapter.

Last Stop Lofts is a concept that aims to transform one of Dresden’s most significant historic sites into an extraordinary collection of loft apartments—with the goal of preserving the building’s character and history while breathing new life into it.

For this vision to become a reality, the city of Dresden must make the property available for this project.

We are therefore collecting public expressions of support to demonstrate that there is genuine interest in preserving this extraordinary place, reimagining it, and making it accessible to a new generation of residents.
